How to Make Lontong
How to Make Lontong (Rice Cakes) chewy and fragrant Lontong is an Asia dish made of compressed rice then cut into small form. Its very popular in Indonesia. This dish is typically as a companion to the other dishes such as kupang lontong, soto Ayam, rujak cingur, curries, sate and etc. If you don't have time to make it, you can buy in many place easily especialy in traditional market.

Lontong is traditionally made by cooking the rice and packing it tightly into a rolled up Banana leaves and then cooked in boiling water for about 2 hours. Cooled it in fresh air and the rice become compact and can be cut  into bite sized pieces.

Ingredients : rice, banana leaf, pandan leaf and  stick.

How to make :

  • provide banana leaves stone, which is not so old. Use a dry cloth to clean it. Cut it into of approximately 30 x 20 cm.
  • Cleaned rice then soaked in water approximately one hour. Then drained.
  • Take two pieces of banana leaves and then roll become the cylinder, where the green color on the inside of, which aims to make green color on the surface of lontong. Hook one side of the cylinder using a stick.
  • Put the rice into a banana leaf approximately half of the silinder then hook the other end using a stick.
  • Place the lontong inside the pan vertically.
  • Add the water into the pan until the lontong submerged. Put the pandan leaf to make fragrant then boiled.
  • Boil using medium heat about 2 hours, if the water reduced, add the hot water. Boil until rthe lontong chewy.
  • Take the lontong and drain it vertically.
